The Doula

Earlier this week we met with our Doula. Well, Liz met with our Doula. Apparently they got along great and Liz feels it is a great match. Actually she is an apprentice and has overseen 12+ births. This does not bother us. We have chosen to secure a doula since we have no family in the area to help us out. The role of the doula is to guide us through labor and be a voice of reason during labor. She will assure we not go to the hospital too soon (thus avoiding unnecesary medical intervention) and be an advocate during labor (again to avoid unnecessary medical intervention). With a US C-section rate at 27% and climbing (compliments of Britney Spears) versus a <10% for the rest of the world, she will act as an advocate for us as well as a voice of reason if needed.
